What makes for a good surgery?

Calm Environment

We limit the number of surgeries each day so we can provide individual care to each pet. We are not distracted by the chaos associated with many patients being processed that day.

Upon admission, we give our patients a welcoming ‘cocktail’ to make their visit enjoyable. They are escorted to a comfortable area, which has dim lights and soothing music. Their bed is sprayed with pheromones which remind them of their mother and fun times.

Comfort

No doubt surgery can induce unpleasant responses. We minimize that by providing pain control in SIX different ways. Our patients wake up quickly, calmly and happy. They are monitored closely then returned to their cozy room with warm blankets.

In addition, most of our medications are reversible for additional safety. Every patient has an IV catheter placed for immediate access. This access also allows us to give IV fluids to replenish routine loss.

Anesthetic Monitoring

Everyone has a concern about their pet undergoing anesthesia, and rightly so. There are risks involved, which we are aware of and prepare for. Here is how we do it.

Equipment: We used multiple devices to keep abreast of your pet’s changing condition. We are constantly checking blood pressure, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, heart rhythm and rate (EKG) and temperature. We work in a separate surgical suite which has special filters and air circulation to keep the procedures sterile.

Experienced Tech: These sensors are analyzed by a dedicated veterinary nurse, with years of experience.

Experienced surgeon: The doctor doing surgery has done surgery for many years. From working at a spay/neuter facility, she has performed over 14,000 surgeries. With every procedure, you get her knowledge, speed and judgment to provide for a successful outcome.

We hope this explains the care we put into your pet’s experience. Other places may not be as thorough with their procedures; be sure to ask. We want your pet to be safe and comfortable. We know it can be a stressful time for your pet and for you. If you have any questions, please let us know.
